Thrive Athlete, Mom, Registered Nurse and Certified Personal Trainer Teams Up with Thrive at Get Fit Davis

July 18, 2016

Thrive, the women’s whole-body program at Get Fit Davis and Get Fit Davis Sport, is thrilled to introduce athlete, mom, registered nurse, and certified personal trainer Lori Benedict as the newest team member. Lori will support the women of Davis and surrounding communities as they journey toward whole-body health.

Thrive combines small-group workouts, nutrition coaching, and 1-on-1 goal setting in a positive community to help women of all ages achieve their fitness, nutrition and well-being goals.

“I am so excited to be a part of Thrive! Teaming up with Thrive to support the women in our community is an honor. I participate in Thrive’s program and am so thankful for the positive difference it has made in my life. I feel stronger, fitter, and healthier than ever,” says Benedict.

Lori brings a wealth of complementary fitness, nutrition and well-being skills to the Thrive team. Her health and wellness journey began in her 20s as she pursued a nursing career and battled Celiac and Hashimoto’s diseases. “My autoimmune diseases are still present; there is no cure. Yet living a healthy, active lifestyle has enabled me to surpass all of my doctors’ expectations,” says Lori.

Lori’s fitness journey began as a form of physical therapy after her diagnoses. “I began cycling and completed several 75 and 150 mile bike races.” Since then, Lori has become a certified spin instructor for Get Fit Davis, strength trains with Thrive, and is completing the AFAA personal trainer certification.

Lori also brings her nutritional knowledge to Thrive. Suffering from Celiac disease and then Hashimoto’s disease during her first pregnancy, Lori approached her diet and nutrition in a new way. She successfully navigated her way through safe, healthy food choices before the gluten-free diet emerged and before the FDA mandated allergen labeling. “I like to think of myself as outrunning my disease. Nutrition and exercise are two of my go-to medications with the best results and minimal side effects,” says Lori. Her repertoire of delicious, clean recipes will be introduced to Thrive, including gluten-free options.

As a Registered Nurse for 26 years, Lori understands the benefits of self-care and practicing mindfulness in daily living. Her academic training and specialty training in diabetes, public health and community education will support the well-being goals of Thrive women.

Thrive Athlete, Mom, and UCD Professional Teams Up with Thrive at Get Fit Davis

August 29, 2015

Thrive, the women’s whole-body program at Get Fit Davis and Get Fit Davis Sport, is thrilled to introduce athlete, mom, and UCD professional Brenna Dockter as the newest team member. Brenna will support the women of Davis and surrounding communities as they journey toward whole-body health.

Thrive combines personal coaching, 1-on-1 goal setting, small-group training, and a positive community to help women of all ages achieve their fitness, food and well-being goals.

“I am so excited to be a part of Thrive at Get Fit Davis and Get Fit Davis Sport! Teaming up with Thrive to support the women in our community is an honor. I participated in Thrive’s 8-week program and had an overwhelmingly positive experience,” says Dockter.

Brenna brings a wealth of complementary fitness, food and well-being skills to the Thrive team. Her fitness journey began as a young girl and blossomed as she reached her 20s. “I ran my first marathon with my mom in 2002. Since then, I have run two additional full marathons and over twenty half marathons.”

In 2012, Brenna launched a lunchtime fitness program for a group of UCD colleagues using functional intense exercises to encourage a total body workout. “My coworkers and I took turns developing and leading these workouts. We still workout together and it’s the highlight of our work day,” remarks Dockter.

Brenna also brings her nutritional knowledge to Thrive. Suffering from gestational diabetes during her last pregnancy, Brenna approached her diet and nutrition in a new way. She began eating to fuel and nourish her body to protect her unborn baby. Her repertoire of delicious and clean recipes will be introduced to Thrive, including vegetarian and vegan options.

With a background in Marriage and Family Therapy, Brenna understands the benefits of self-care and practicing mindfulness in daily living. Her academic training in this area will support the well-being goals of Thrive women.
